Wax vs Polish

My friend own a Chevy Silverado painted turquoise metallic and he always used wax on my truck to prevent the paint from any damage but recently a paint shop service man suggest him not to use wax because it kills the paint. Instead of this he should use polish and it will provide the same protection. Looking for your advice and suggestion.

Thanks.

Normally, it would be reverse...if you use a 'polish' and you HAND BUFF it, it will do more bad than good.
You really should only use a polish on small places like getting a small scratch out, not for a complete car/truck
Wax is good

BUT, if you have the old single stage enamel on your truck, then due to wear, along with waxing and polishing, you will eventually start cutting into the metallics and the paint job starts turning blotchy over time.
If you have a basecoat/clearcoat, then you're all right to wax (or maching polish, then wax)

yep just as Taz suggested, use polish to bring paint back to life such as to get rid of small scratches, remove oxidation or hazing. Then just wax to protect the paint finish. But continued use of polish you'll soon be looking at primer.
