Well it finally happend to me. I was welding a tailgate handle filler shut today and that the tailgate skin warped on me! Ive done these before and never had a problem. Can I heat it up and hit it with cold water and hope it pops out? Or do I have to bondo it smooth?

I would just slap the filler to it, no sense in taking the chance of making it worse........

Though I have managed to shrink metal before doing it that way. IMO, it affects the properties of the steel too much.....

You might be able to work some of it out with some hammering and heat shrinking but it usually won't come back out all the way, you'll just use less mud.Weld a little slower next time.I've warped lots of things getting in a hurry and not letting it cool after a few tacks before continuing.

You might try some of that heat-shunt? clay stuff from Eastwood. I used it before to keep heat away from the area being welded, worked pretty good. TC /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/agree.gif
