Wet Sand? Dry Sand?

Is there any advantage to wet sanding over dry sanding?

Wet sanding doesn't seem to clog up the sand paper as quickly, but the mixture of water and primer dust can be difficult to get out of nooks and crannys if it dries. On the other hand the dry dust left behind from dry sanding us usually easily blown away. I'm just curious about why most people prefer to wet sand.

keeping the water flowing generaly helps from the residue problem , but i advise against wet sanding , without knowing what type of primer you are sanding...i have seen cars , and parts years later that were wet-sanded prior to painting , and there was a water absorbtion problem into the primer , which made little bubbles start to pop up in the finished product. just my 2 cents worth...

I've gone to the metal, applied epoxy primer, then went over the epoxy primer with some laquer primer. (I've got alot of blocking to do.)

Exactly.Lacquer primer doesn't really like to be topcoated with current basecoats, and it's awefull about sucking up moisture whether it's from wetsanding or just humidity.Red oxide is the worst about it and is almost guarranteed to cause moisture bubbles.

Bad move on the laquer primer. i would sand it all off and use a catylized primer if you want it to last.
