wetsanding problems

I wetsanded my basecoat with 1000 on the front fender and it seems to have sanded right through to the primer in some places, especially around edges and on the rivot heads. And I'm hardly putting any pressure, so does anybody have any suggestions or tips? Could it be possible that I didn't lay down the basecoat thick enough?

I agree with Osh. I always lay 2-3 coats of intercoat clear on over the basecoat as soon as it flashes so that I have something to sand on. It doesn't take very much pressure to go thru a few coats of basecoat with 1000 grit.

I've had to sand the base before (because of dust or bug or something myself).Base is and should be kept thin,just make sure you give it another dust coat before clear.Jim

Thanx alot guys. The reason I was sanding the basecoat was because of dust, but I never thought of shooting a dusting over that. I guess I wasn't using my head. thanx again guys
