Well, I was in the process of transferring the flames from one side to the other. I had made the template with paper and a grease pencil.

I took it into the house and pounced it with a piece of card board under it, looked and there were no holes. Good thing I didn't do the whole thing. I ended up using the linoleum and pounced it. Saw holes, good to go. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bigokay.gif

Lined it up on the car, hit it with the chalk filled sock, the sh!t flew everywhere, lifted the paper, hardly any on the car!!!!! That cheap-ass freakin pounce wheel didn't work worth a sh!t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flame.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flame.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif

I went over it with a razor and managed to scrape off the top of the dots, then tried it again. Better luck this time, but that damn chalk is everywhere and some of the tape wasn't wanting to stick......... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Now I am out of tape and not done........... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

I should've ordered the good pounce wheels and been done with it, but I didn't want to wait........

What a huge mess, I will probably wipe the rest down and just free hand it, make it close.........

Sorry to hear that things didn't work out. I personally prefer to do the flames by hand, even if they don't come out perfectly even. It give the paint job a little character and everyone will know it's a custom job vs. the factory flames that are now available.

Sorry to hear about the bad times. I bought my pounce wheel through coast airbrush. I bought one at the fabric store once, I never even tried it (didn't look like it would work). Once you get a nice pounce wheel it doesn't take much chalk at all, you just need to lightly pat it over the area.
Again sorry to hear you had a tuff time with it. Stay calm, it'll get better I'm sure.

After you pounce your lines, go over the backside with some 220grit paper to knock off the paper points. It opens the holes better.

Sounds familiar. Our cheap pounce wheel meesed us up too. The wheel wouldn't cleanly poke the hole evenly through both sides of the paper...so when you flipped the sheet around to the other side, the holes were so small that the chaulk dust wouldn't come through.
The excess dust was a problem as well. Using a "clean finger" I would actually wipe the chaulk dust flame line off and it would leave me a clean area about 3-4 times as wide as my fine line tape. Then I'd come in with my fine line. I've found that even wheel the wheel did a good job of poking holes, the problem was actually the excess chaulk not allowing my fine line to stick to the car.
Good luck with it....

Here's a picture of the first/last car I flamed. We were pretty happy with it. It has sunrise pearl flames over Kandy Apple red.

I hate cheap pounce wheels. The only thing they work good with is the cheap masking paper. TC /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/agree.gif

I did the pounce wheel thing for the very first time yesterday , after I read this thread it kinda scared me somewhat because I'm not sure if I actually purchased a good one or not , so I said what do I have to lose and I tried it and it worked fabulous , it was a bit messy but not too bad and it sure left an obvious outline for me to follow , it made the duplication process quite easy . Thanks for all the tips .
