Im doing a custom softail right now and i have a base of viper silver, then i have sqaures that twist into diamonds and have skulls in them.. i cleared it after the silver, sanded it with 1000 then did the diamonds and skulls and cleared it, sanded it with 1000 grit, then i did some flames that are marbelized, cleared it, sanded it wih 1000.. and now ill clear it once more.. is that the correct grit to use ? thats how we paint all out cars where we work, scuff the clear off with 1000.. i know some use 600 or 800.. whats the best grit to use ? i of course want the best adheasion possible.. thanks alot ! i will post pics when im done..

using 1000 still allows good adhesion of the following coats? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Yeah,1000 is fine if it's what you like.I use 6 on the da because it takes less time.On lighter colored cars I'll use 500 if it's one of those that just wanna sand hard but on dark colors or any courser paper you can see a little scratch shrinkage.

I really like Norton's Black Ice in the 800 grit.
Coarse enough for quick work yet not as easy to bust through with.
