what to do, what to do?

im painting a fat boy back with the same color patern,it has factory paint on it and large decals on the tank. what i want to know is if its better to take it down to the bare metal or not.ive heard you can block sand the decal out and if you dont sand though the clear you can prime it and seal it and it will be ok. i dont know if i would trust that with 400.00 worth of paint invested,the finders are in good shape so i dont think i should take them to the metal but would take any suggestions if you have any. thanks gene

Gene, see my reply, what to do with factory decals on harley tank in general painting section. i usally just strip where the decals are , prime, block sand and shoot. i have never had any problems as long as its original factory paint
