what type of gun

i was wondering what type of gun works best for topcoat and clear, does the more costly guns work better then the cheap ones, i would think the better the gun the better the job will come out, some people say the cheap ones work as well as the good ones, i dont know about that, most of the guns i have used run around the 125.00 price range which really is not a really cheap one but i was thinking of getting a better one and was wondering if the more costly ones are worth the money thanks for any info
