Hello, I am pretty new to the flames board and man what a great source of information!! I am going to be paining some helmits in the future and I have a couple of questions.

Lets say that I am painting a white helmet with a red base color and have some flames and some graphics. In the begging, would I want to spray the entire helmit red and then lay down the masking for the flames and graphics and spray them over the red?? Or should I have the flames and graphics already masked off, then shoot the red, remove the tape and then paint the flames and graphics over the original white base with which I started??

I would thing that sence it is a helmit and I want to keep the weight to a minimal, that the 2nd way would be a better way to go. Anyway, thanks for any imput!!!

They both work fine but in different ways.
It's easier to paint the helmet red then add graphics, but you'll have an edge to smooth out. Not a big deal.
The second way involves a lot more masking work but you'll end up with virtually no paint edges were the paint meets.
It all depends on what you're charging and how much work you're willing to do.
