My car is supposedly an onyx black, oem code 202. I'm about to paint 4 panels on the car. Jet black is so much easier to obtain around here, and i think it looks really good. Now, is the difference, if any, that significant? and what's the difference anyway? I'm only painting the 2 fenders and 2 lower quarter panels on a Lexus, and depending on money and results, i might paint the whole thing. Due to space, i can only paint a couple of panels at a time. Help is greatly appreciated.

SO,,,, what's the difference between the two? I never bought paint, s NAPA is the only thing that sounds familiar around here. I live in Socal by the way.

the only difference is what the company will sell. like lordco is ppg. napa is dupont 
(the best) and white and peters is rm. diamont that kinda stuff. go to your napa. ask them about your black, try and find a paint code for that black. and they will mix it up for you. from pint to gallon. for painting for beginners i would choose nason. is a great paint that just flows so nice when its dry, shoot two coats of black on it. no shine. you dont need shine in base. before your base drys too much, nail it with a dryer coat of clear. to give your final coat something to grip to. allowing yoru final coat to flow properly when drying.

if your car was originally painted with onyx black,( oem) the paint code will be on the car. Since you have this code oem 202. Any of the paint suppliers will be able to mix this up for you.

I think what you are asking is...............is all black the same? onyx is black, right? not exactly....... Your cars code (202) has a minute amount of pearl in it, check out the color in the sun and you'll see tiny specs of color in it. Jet black doesn't have the pearl in it.
