what\'s the difference?

What are the differences in brands of paint? HoK/ dupont/ store brands?

Do some cover more w/ less coats?
do they dry differently?
Do they last longer? (I thought that had to do with how you prep the surface)
Just opinion of the painter or bragging rights of the customer?

More reasons? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Hosestly, about the same between Chevy- Ford- Dodge, you get my point. HOK offers a wider range to the custom painter, but there is also PPG, X-otic, alsa, sem, as well as others reaching the custom market as well.
Personally I mainly use PPG and recently used some HOK. Mainly what your used to and want to pay for.

HOK also has alot of pigment in thier paints which cover well but,you can't get a color match for OEM colors when doin repairs. The clear,UC-35 is thin and you can use many coats,I have a body shop supply house 15 minutes away and he carries mostly DuPont so,I went that way.Thier clear is a thicker (more solids) 2 coat clear.I've grown to really like DuPont,I get great color matches with the Chromabase.I've used thier cheaper brand Nason, which is good but alot thinner and doesn't cover as well.(differant mixing instructions too)I've used it to paint a motorhome and it came out just fine but, the jobber says he doesn't get as good of paint matches (OEM) with Nason. He gets slight variations in color.Maybe the Quality control isn't as good. For an overall,Nason works fine.Is it less durable than Dupont?I don't know.
Use whatever (good quality) paint you have easy access to,So when you run out of clear or reducer or whatever, you know you can run back for more.Mixing instructions vary from maker to maker too so,working with differant brands gets confusing.Bottom line is whatever you use the most will become your favorite brand, the more you use it the more you find out what you can get away with as far as flash times, reducer temps, how much to mix for a job etc, etc. My advice is just don't use the really cheap stuff. In painting,I believe you get what you pay for!Jim

EXACTLY!!

That is the main reason I use Dupont. Not that I don't like it, but it is right uptown, so if I run out in the middle of a paintjob for some reason, I can get it in the amount of time that it flashes.
