Where is the Paint Code?

Where Can I find the paint code for my 2002 Harley Davidson Sportster? It is a Bright Blue Metalic paint now.

There isn't one.I don't know if it's true but I heard the color can be traced by the VIN #.Once you know the color name the paint store looks it up in the computer.

some codes are in vin but harley does want you to buy fron them.You can get the code from dealer and got to ppg supplier and they will mix.

I MIX PAINT HERE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CODE IS NOT GOING TO BE IN THE COMPUTER LIKE WHAT WAS SAID HARLEY WANTS U TO SPEEND MONEY WITH THEM BUT WHAT U CAN DO IS TAKE SOME OF THE SHEET METAL TO A PAINT SUPPLIER ANG GET IT SCANED IT NEEDS TO BE FLAT WHERE THEY SCAN IT AT LEAST 4IN WIDE

Motox, on most HD tanks there's a tag on the bottom with the color NAME (not a number code) and date.you may have to pull the tank on your bike to see it. Or you can go the easy way and just look the a HD brochure for colors on your model/year. I've mixed a bunch of HD colors on the mixing system where i work. Any paint jobber that's in the 21st century should be able to help you out. Just make sure they don't sell you lacquer.

Easiest way is to go through and find the colors available for the 02 sporty and match it to yours. Harley uses laquer so you may want to get a bit of touch up paint to have it matched somewhere else.
I have used the factory laquer and cleared it with urethane. Three years later the paint still looks good.
