Im about to paint my car-- a 71 vw beetle. The basecoat is going to be white. The plan is a metallic royal blue flame with the metal flake getting heavier toward the tips. They will be outlined in black with no metallic in the flame curves, and the metal flakes getting really really heavy in the tips. I want some opinions/ other suggestions. Thanks in advance

Sorry I ca't help you too much with the flames, but is your Beetle standard or super? I have a 73' standard, and it's a load of fun to drive. I painted mine with single stage omni, and it still looks good after 5 months or so.

The metalic Blue on white sounds like it would look cool. How much of the car will the flames cover?

I too will be painting a '71 Bug soon, actually it's a Super Beetle. The plan is Black with leopard print flames. I just painted the glovebox door this past weekend to see how it would look. Here is a pic of it, I haven't decided about a pinstripe color for the flames yet.

The bug is a super... Had i known more about VW's when i was shopping, i would have held out for a pre 69 standard. As for the lime green stripe, i originally actually wanted to do that, but the trim on the car is black and chrome, so i figured black would look best-- it also matched the black and blue interior. Thanks for the input, keep it coming... if anyone has a good reason not to do this, i want to hear that too

I gotta say, there is no reason for not painting flames of any kind! That's the thrill of doing this, for something new, personal, unique, unseen before,,,etc....You just take your idea and run with it. Maybe a couple of practice panels to get an idea what it's going to look like, but just go do it!!! JB/Montana

I agree, lime green would be a great pinstripe on those flames. how did you get the nice leopord/cheetah print pattern?

onelow, I did it w/a airbrush, I can see that I'm going to have some time in flaming the car.
