Would I have better luck with an HVLP gun as opposed to the gravity feed gun I'm using. I've been thinking of getting one anyway, and if it would help I might just go ahead and get it now.

it just uses all the paint instead of having that left over at the bottom. as long as it has good atomization you'll be fine.

but get a gravity feed if you are anyway.

Thanks for the reply Hoss. I think you may have misunderstood what I was asking.
I already have a gravity feed gun, I was wondering if the HLVP would be better.
Thanks
Richard

i don't think it would be better or worse. if your gravity feed shoots well, and you're happy w/ the result then use it. i mistakenly was thinking gravity feed vs. siphon feed, oops.

if it shoots well then use it. the only way to know the real difference is to see for yourself i think. so i can't help too much w/ this question. if your happy w/ the result then don't worry about the change.

Overall, you have to just "work it".
What you see is what you get!!!

Put the first couple coats on 'wet', then do a 'fog' coat (or what I mentioned before as a cris-cross pattern). Just work it until the stripes go away. You just need to fog it, don't just lay more wet coats as your cris-cross coats.

OK, yesterday I layed a couple coats on a spare fuel tank I have. The paint turned out near perfect.
I come in this morning to redo the hood for the truck, and now the hood looks like it has a matte finish. Not smooth and glossy at all. What the heck am I'm doing wrong? Yesterday it came out fine on the test piece and today a no go. I should have painted the hood yesterday when I was on a roll :)
Any ideas??

I would say either their was quite a bit of moisture in the air, or you added more reducer than recommended. Sometimes if you add either too much from the get go, or you add some on the last coat to make it flow out better, this will 'kill' some of the shine.

Their is about 70 to 80 % humidity today. That's probably the problem. This Ful-Thane paint says it can be recoated at anytime. Would I need to sand it before I try another coat at a drier time?
Thanks
Richard
